On February 12, 2026, at a meeting of the Academic Council of Sumy State University, the official award ceremony for the winners of the university-wide competition “Best Academic and Teaching Staff of SumDU” for the 2024–2025 academic year took place.
First place and the First-Degree Diploma at the university level were awarded to the Head of the Department of Pathology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Roman Andriiovych Moskalenko.
This victory is not a random episode but reflects a consistent trajectory of professional growth. Roman Moskalenko’s results in this competition over the past three years demonstrate exceptional stability in intense competition:
2022–2023 academic year — 2nd place (with a margin of only 1 point from the leader);
2023–2024 academic year — 1st place;
2024–2025 academic year — 1st place (an 8-point lead over 2nd place).
The “Best Academic and Teaching Staff of SumDU” competition is not merely a formal ranking but a comprehensive audit of a scholar’s and educator’s performance. According to the University Regulations, the evaluation system is among the most demanding in Ukraine and is based on two fundamental stages.
The first and mandatory stage is a survey of students. Only those instructors whose level of student support and approval exceeds 90% are admitted to the competition. This emphasizes that high-quality communication and respect from the student community are at the core of success.
The evaluation is carried out across a wide range of metrics (a comprehensive analysis of about 30 indicators), including research productivity (publications in Scopus/WoS, citations), methodological work, grant activity, international cooperation, and the training of research personnel.
The competition format introduced at SumDU is an effective tool for internal monitoring and stimulation of human resource potential. The victory of a representative of the Medical Institute in such an intellectual competition confirms the high competitiveness of SumDU’s medical school at the university-wide level.
“These results of recent years have been recognized thanks to the students, who highly appreciate my work. Nevertheless, this award is the result of the work of the entire team and confirms that the chosen strategy for the development of pathology at our university is correct and effective,” said Roman Moskalenko.
We congratulate Roman Andriiovych and wish him new achievements in his scientific and pedagogical work!
